10 100 1000 servers

Experimental Project · Work in Progress ·

mochela.it is a node, not a centre. It only makes sense alongside others: small, different, scattered servers, set up by collectives, associations, people.

Nothing here is final: there is the will to build free, open and shared alternatives, and to learn together. Below, the ways to be part of it.

Take part

Write

Ideas, criticism, mistakes you found, proposals to work together: info@mochela.it, or on SimpleX.

Use free tools

Every time you choose free software and independent services, the net becomes a little more open.

Set up your own

10, 100, 1000 servers. If you want to run one, start from mochela.it's code, and ask: what we have learned here we are happy to share.

Spread the word

Tell people who might need it about this project, and about free software.

Support us

Servers cost money, and mochela.it sells nothing. How to contribute, even a little.

What brings us together

  • The net is a commons. Not a shopping centre full of cameras.
  • Privacy is a right, not a paid extra nor a reason for suspicion.
  • Autonomy: knowing how the tools you use work, and being able to replace them.
  • Mutual aid: those who know, teach; those who have a server, host.
  • Free software and shared knowledge: what is learnt and built here goes back to everyone, under free licences.
  • Respect. Anyone using these spaces to offend or attack other people is not welcome.

Kindred projects

Projects that share the same spirit, in Europe: fellow travellers.

  • Free Software Foundation Europe: promotes free software and the rights of its users (Europe).
  • Fedimedia Italia: a non-profit association bringing together Italian free software and fediverse projects, mochela.it included (Italy).
  • Officina Tecnologica: a workshop where young people learn coding, electronics and 3D printing by working on projects they choose themselves (Italy).
  • Disroot: free mail, cloud and collaboration tools (Netherlands).
  • Framasoft: "de-googling the internet", one free service at a time (France).
  • Deuxfleurs: the collective that develops Garage, the program that stores mochela.it's mail (France).
