a solidarity pact, not a contract

Experimental Project · Work in Progress ·

mochela.it is not a company and this is not a contract. It is a pact between whoever keeps the server running and whoever uses it: free of charge, built on trust and solidarity, for a space that stays everyone's.

This is a translation: if the two versions differ, the Italian text applies.

What mochela.it does

  • Keeps as little as possible. Only what is needed to make the service work, for as long as it is needed. What is not kept cannot be lost, nor handed over to anyone.
  • Does not read, sell or profile. No ads, no analysis of messages, no data passed on to anyone.
  • Tells it like it is. How it works and what it cannot do is written on this site, limits included.
  • Gives notice first. Major changes, long maintenance or a shutdown are announced in good time, leaving room to take your data away.

What we ask of you

  • No spam, no unsolicited bulk mail, no phishing.
  • No use of the service to attack other systems or other people.
  • No racist, sexist or offensive content towards others; no harassment.
  • No commercial activity: mochela.it is not a service for businesses.
  • Look after your account: a strong password, two-factor authentication, and tell us if you think someone got in.
  • Keep a copy of what matters: a small server can have a bad day.
  • If you can, lend a hand: report problems, help newcomers, spread the idea.

Whoever breaks the pact loses access. A mailbox abandoned for a long time may be closed, after a warning.

What we know about you

As little as possible, and only in the European Union. In short:

  • Website: no cookies, no scripts; the access log has no IP address and is deleted after seven days.
  • Mail: account and messages as long as you keep them; in the technical logs IP addresses and names stay one hour at most, the rest seven days; encrypted backups for six months at most.
  • SimpleX: no account; encrypted messages, kept only until your app collects them, and for three weeks at most.
  • Video conferences: no account for invited guests, IP address not logged, chat in memory for four hours. Audio and video are encrypted up to the server, not end to end: the details. A meeting is recorded only if the organiser tells the participants beforehand, and recordings disappear after five days.

Who is responsible for the data, why we use it, how long we keep it, your rights and how to ask to see, correct or delete it: the privacy notice.

No guarantees, but no surprises

mochela.it is offered as it is, free of charge, by a single person: it can stop, break, change. It does not promise to be there forever; it promises not to vanish in silence. If one day it has to close, it will say so with as much notice as possible, leaving time to take your data away.

The pact may change: every important change is announced here and, to those with a mailbox, by mail. Last updated: 19 October 2026.
