mochela.it sells nothing: no advertising, no data, no subscriptions. Servers, however, cost money. Keeping mail, website, messaging and video calls running costs about 900 euro a year, so far paid by whoever runs it.

Why support us
- To stay independent. Three nodes, three providers, three countries: if one closes, the service carries on. But technical independence only holds if there is financial independence too: no advertising, no data sold, no sponsors who one day ask for something in return. Donations make the project sustainable over time, instead of depending on one person's pocket.
- Data stays in Europe, where privacy is a fundamental right and getting hold of it takes a European judge. Why it matters.
- Free spaces can disappear. Every independent server is a small island of freedom and autonomy, and an island only stays afloat if someone looks after it. That is why we are looking for supporters: individuals, associations, collectives, anyone who wants these spaces to keep existing.
- What is learnt here goes back to everyone. Configuration and guides become free software, so that others can set up their own server: 10, 100, 1000 servers.
Every independent server is a small island: it stays afloat if many people look after it.
Where the money goes
About 900 euro a year, that is 75 euro a month, for:
- three servers rented in three countries of the European Union (Germany, Denmark, Spain);
- the
mochela.itdomain and its DNS; - the disks for backups, kept off the network.
The time of whoever runs the server is voluntary and is not counted. The box at the top shows how many months of the year donations already cover, and is updated by hand.
How to donate
Write to us
Write to dona@mochela.it and we will send you the details to donate. Even a few euro count: 75 euro cover a whole month.
European channels only
For donations we only use banks and payment services in the European Union: no companies from other countries learning who supports mochela.it.
mochela.it is not an association: donations are not tax-deductible. Donors get nothing in return, except one more piece of free network. Only we see your name: how we handle data.
Even without money
Reporting a mistake, spreading the word, lending a hand with the technical work: the ways to take part.
